Not only are our cows part of the family, but several are carriers of the heritage A2 genetics! A2 cows carry the A2 form of the Beta-Casein gene, instead of the A1 gene, which is often the culprit behind many milk sensitivities and allergies. A long time ago most dairy cows were A2, however with the changing dairy industry, higher demands, and increasing need for better productivity, the heritage A2 genetics were replaced with A1. Most of today's dairy cows are high volume producing A1 Holsteins, however the A2 genetics (typically Jersey, Guernsey, and Brown Swiss) are making a comeback thanks to small family farms and homesteads who value the creamy, nutritious quality of A2 milk. The raw milk from our cows is natural and free of all chemicals, hormones, and additives and is used to make our fresh homemade butter and cheeses, just like The Little House on the Prairie! We noticed a dramatic improvement in our family's health after switching to wholesome, raw, A2 milk.
In addition to raw milk, we also raise beef from our milk cows. Because of their easy-going nature and bountiful milk production, we can often put additional bum calves on each of our cows to raise (and still get a gallon of milk daily!). This allows us to keep milk production high, milking schedules flexible, and enables us to raise natural grass-fed beef without as much input.
