For the past twelve years we have been selecting and breeding rare and endangered heritage pigs on our small homestead in the hopes of providing superior, healthier, and tastier pork for our family and local community. The Red Wattle breed is the foundation of our program (and is currently on the "Threatened Species" list) and is known as the “gourmet bacon breed” due to its incredibly tender and sweet red meat. In addition to our purebred Red Wattle pigs, we also breed Gloucestershire Old Spot, who originated in England and are renowned for their outstanding hams, as well as Large Black. Our pigs are kept outdoors in their natural environment and enjoy personalized care that includes mud baths and diets that consist of local grain and grasses, organic mineral, and natural supplements. We do not feed any wheat, as we have found that the modern gluten levels in commercial wheat greatly affect our heritage pigs, causing them to itch and have dry, flaky skin. Instead, we feed local barley, natural grasses and alfalfa, mineral, Diatomaceous Earth, organic Kelp, Redmond Salts, veggies, and raw milk from our family milk cows.
